14 Jun Shall We Dance
This annual dance showcase first saw the light of day in 1991 – an idea by the then CEO of The Playhouse Company to put ballroom and Latin competition dancing on the stage for audiences to enjoy. What started out as a humble offering of Ballroom and Latin dancing has evolved into the action-packed dance show we see today.
Last year’s production included, not only ballroom and Latin dancing, but belly, line, modern and tap dancing – not to mention ballet and hip-hop! Celebrated guest artistes included 2015 World Dance Exhibition couple Gerhard and Amor, the reigning ballroom champions from Denmark, Nicolai Bouet and Anna Shagalina, as well as our own up-and-coming international Latin pair Darren Hammon and Milla Lukke Nielsen. As if this wasn’t enough to keep folks on the edge of their seats, the show also featured a Tap Dogs-style number.
Shall We Dance is brought to you by the Playhouse Company, in association with the South African Dance Teachers Association (SADTA), and is produced and directed by Neville Letard and Caryl Cusens. Shall We Dance runs from 9-17 September at the Playhouse Opera Theatre at the Playhouse, 29 Anton Lembede Street, Durban.
